US SEC Acting Chair Mark Uyeda Launches Crypto Task Force
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced the formation of a new task force dedicated to crypto regulation. Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda unveiled the initiative on January 21, 2025, with Commissioner Hester Peirce taking the lead.
The task force aims to create a clear and comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets, addressing longstanding industry confusion.

Commissioner Hester Peirce will head the task force as it works to clarify rules for crypto businesses and investors. The effort will focus on establishing well-defined registration requirements and realistic pathways for compliance.
Richard Gabbert, Senior Advisor to the Acting Chairman, will serve as Chief of Staff for the task force, while Taylor Asher, Senior Policy Advisor to the Acting Chairman, will act as Chief Policy Advisor. According to the US SEC, staff from various divisions will contribute to the initiative.
Speaking on the formation of the task force, Acting Chairman Uyeda stated, “I look forward to the efforts of Commissioner Peirce to lead regulatory policy on crypto, which involves multiple SEC divisions and offices.”
